On Saturday, June 16, The Council of Native American Ministries met at St. Luke’s. Thirty representatives from Sedona, Surprise, Tucson and Prescott were present. Quarterly meetings of the Council are held to announce open projects and exchange ideas with one another. The state-wide group is headed by Canon Debbie Royals.
The St. Luke’s Committee, which has been active over the past year, is chaired by Monte Anderson; Vice-Chair is Sherri Frances. Projects completed were three quarterly teaching sessions that were open to the public, very well attended, and featured Native American teachers. Sherri Frances played a major role on behalf of St. Luke’s in the 2017 Christmas youth celebration at the Yavapai-Apache Nation.
Guests at the Council included Don Decker, Public Relations Director at the Yavapai-Apache Nation and flutists Syd Cregger and Sue Daniel.
The meeting began with a Cherokee prayer by Syd Cregger and ended with a closing prayer by Barbara Sanchez, Lakota elder and sister of the famous Lakota author and activist, Vine DeLoria Jr.
